Research Interests (Publications Below)

I am interested in the way humans interact with information systems and am particularly interested in the persistence of manual systems in the face of technological change.

I have a special interest in information systems for health and lead the Computational Bioinformatics and Health Information Systems Research Group in my department.

My two current funded projects investigate

                          1. Ways of presenting information to patients with chronic diseases so that they will engage in positive health behaviours, and

2.Ways of using communication technologies to assist young people with psychotic illnesses.

You can read about some of my work on online health forums that has been featured in the press here:

You can hear a live interview I did with Radio National on “Cyberchondria” in Jan 2015 here:

and you can read about this work in The Age on Aug 8th,2015:

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching in subjects where students have involvement with industry and at the moment I am teaching Project Management in Science.

Last Year I was awarded  the Engineering Faculty 2014 Teaching Award for my work  which showed how students can be involved in creating

interesting teaching materials which can be reused in different  teaching contexts.
