The James-Stein Estimator has been labelled by Efron as the most striking theorem in post-war mathematical statistics. This short presentation introduces the James-Stein estimator. It includes a short Python program showing the estimator appears to perform as claimed. Finally, it gives a down-to-earth explanation.
