The Sustainable Energy and Environmental Devices Lab is seeking highly motivated graduate students, postdocs and visiting researchers. Interested researchers with a background in fabrication and characterization of energy related electronic devices are encouraged to apply, in particular those with experience in photovoltaics, 2D materials and photodetectors. Interested candidates should contact us via email (james.bullock at unimelb.edu.au) including a 2-page resume (pdf) and a short description (< 300 words) of research they would be interested in undertaking. Below are some common fellowships and scholarships available to researchers:

PhD students:
  • From 2020 the University of Melbourne offers the Ingenium Ph.D Scholarship, open to Australian and NZ citizens and Australian permanent residents in all research areas of engineering and IT. Ingenium Scholarships offer a generous funding package that includes a living stipend ($45K/year), travel and professional development opportunities ($10K/year) for up to three and a half years. More details here.
  • The University of Melbourne offers the Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarship to high-achieving international and domestic students. There are five selection rounds per year, more details here.
  • Australia Awards Scholarships provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities. More information here.
  • A range of joint Ph.D programs with the University of Manchester, Indian Institute of Technologys, RWTH Aachen, and Jülich Research Centre can be organised with the University of Melbourne.
  • Ph.D students can search for other PhD scholarships and top-ups here.

Postdocs:
  • The University of Melbourne offers the McKenzie Fellowship to promising early career researchers. This fellowship provides three years of salary and some additional project related funds!
  • The prestigious Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) program offered by the Australian Research Council provides 3 years of funding towards salary and projects.

Unimelb Masters/Undergraduates:
  • For Engineering Masters students enrolling in the year long capstone course we always host a range of projects. For other Unimelb Engineering students we offer smaller research projects through the EEE Summer Research Internship. Unimelb Masters students also have the option to take the directed studies course (ELEN90011) which provides course credit to undertake a small research project. It’s a great way to get a taste of what University research is like!
