Mareels, Stability of a trajectory based control law for an unknown non-minimum phase system, Proc. 3rd Asian Control Conference, pp 1218-1222. The paper was presented by A. Brockwell.
- Best Poster Award, Eight International World Wide Web Conference, Toronto, Canada, May 11-14, 1999, for the poster presentation "Using the WWW for teaching and assessment of electrical engineering" by Iven Mareels, Melissa Norfolk, Craig Burton, Robert Barnett. The poster was presented by M. Norfolk.
- Vice-Chancellor's Award For Excellence In Teaching, 1994. Award obtained in recognition of the contribution made to post graduate education (as witnessed by the establishment of the Graduate Engineering Program, within the Graduate School, Australian National University and the introduction of a formal course program for Systems Engineering post graduate studies) and for contributions made to the undergraduate interdisciplinary engineering course development at the Australian National University.
- Finalist in the Young Author Best Paper Competition, at the 1993 IFAC World Congress, Sydney, Australia, for the paper K. Halliwell, R.C. Williamson, I.M.Y. Mareels, Learning Nonlinearly Parameterised Decision Regions. (One of five finalists.) The paper was presented by K. Halliwell.
- Best Paper Award Special mention at the 1990 IFAC World Congress, Tallinn, USSR, for the paper, Dynamics in Adaptive Control: Chaotic and Periodic Stabilisation Part II Analysis, Automatica, Vol 24, No. 4, 1988, pp 485-497, co-authored with R.R. Bitmead. (One of five papers that received an award at the 1990 conference).
- K.VIV Award For Electro/Mechanical Engineering, 1982. An award for the best thesis in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering at a Flemish University awarded by the Royal Flemish Engineering Association.
- Award Boulvin-Van Engelen, 1982. A University of Gent award for the student with the highest scores over the five-year engineering (any discipline) program. (Named after two professors of the State University of Gent.)
- Jodoigne Award For Chemistry, school year 1976-1977. A national, Belgian, award for a high school experimental work in the fields of chemistry and/or biology. The project was: Synthesis of Amino Acids.
