Abstract
In this note we critique the paper
`Novel Design of Arithmetic Coding for Data Compression' by J. Jiang
(IEE Proc. Comput. Digit. Tech.,
Vol. 142, No. 6, November 1995, pages 419-424).
A number of weaknesses of the proposed implementation are pointed out, and
the method is contrasted with another recent technique for arithmetic coding.
