Abstract

The objective of this paper is to develop a simulation program of heat pump water heaters which use carbon dioxide as a working fluid. The heat pump system consists of compressor, gas cooler, expansion device and evaporator. The system can produce hot water temperature up to 90 C with the use of appropriate compressor power. For a 2 kW compressor the nominal sizes of gas cooler and evaporator are 6 kW and 4 kW respectively. The compressor heating COP is found to be about 3.5.
