The Twenty-First Annual International ACM-SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval, jointly hosted by the Departments of Computer Science at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and the University of Melbourne, was held in Melbourne, Australia, at the centrally-located Sofitel Hotel from the 24th to the 28th of August 1998.
